Seaport of Nhava Sheva

The Port of Nhava Sheva, with the code INNSA, is located in India. Its official name of Jawaharlal Nehru comes from the name and surname of a Hindu politician, while the common name Nhava Sheva comes from the name of two locales. Nhava Sheva is the biggest container port in India, located east of Bombay (Mumbai) in the state of Maharashtra, at the coast of the Arabian Sea. The port is managed by the Jawaharlal Nehru Seaport Trust. The port was created to lighten the traffic at the port of Bombay. It also allows importers to avoid excise duty paid on goods imported to Bombay.

Port of Nhava Sheva has a waterfront 680 meters in length, and can handle up to 15.6 million tons of cargo annually. Currently, a new container terminal is under construction which will be released into use in July 2016. It will be 330 meters long and will be able to accept 12.5 million tons of cargo a year. The port handles 40% of total container trade in India. This port also exports textiles, food products, plastics, machines, vegetable oils and many other goods.
