Detroit
Detroit is a port with the code USDET. The port is located in the United States, on the west side of the Detroit River. It is the largest port in the state of Michigan. This natural port covers an area of 32 hectares. It is managed by the Detroit/Wayne County Port Authority. The port includes many terminals that handle liquids, bulk cargo, as well as passengers. The port is used to transport one of the city’s most valuable materials – namely steel. In terms of tonnage, however, the most transshipped cargo is ore. The port also transports other cargo, such as stone, coal and cement. The yearly tonnage of goods handled at this port is 13,738,737. In 2012, the port was visited by 1333 ships. The port has been in operation since 1933. The current authorities have been managing the port since 1978. The first head of the port’s council was Henry Ford II. Since 2011, the port has had a passenger terminal making it possible to handle cruise ships on a large scale. The terminal is two stories tall.
