Seaport of Antofagasta
Antofagasta is a seaport with the code CLANF. It is located in Chile, has access to the Pacific Ocean. The city itself is a typical port city and has 318,432 residents. The city’s growth is facilitated mainly through the excavation of copper and of non-metallic minerals such as nitrates and iodine. Of course, the economy’s growth is also affected by the port, though its importance has diminished in recent years. Antofagasta is considered to be the most expensive to live in Chile. It has a few public and private colleges. The city is located north of the country. It is closely linked to mining activity, and most of the residents make a living from this type of work. However, employment can be found also in the construction, retail, hotel industry. In the 20th century, the city began experiencing rapid growth, with new buildings popping up like mushrooms, while existing ones are being modernized. In 10 years’ time, the number of residents is supposed to grow to 500 thousand.
