Seaport of Callao
Callao is a seaport with the code PECLL. The port is located in Peru, and is the country’s principal seaport. Callao is also called Provincia Constitucional. The city was founded by Spanish colonists in 1537. After it was founded, the city’s port became the principal port for Spanish trade in the Pacific Ocean. The origin of the city’s and port’s name is unknown. In 1746, Callao was struck by a tsunami that was caused by an earthquake. This resulted in the destruction of the entire port. The main Naval Hospital is also located in this city. Callao covers the entire peninsula, but it is also comprised of a few islands, namely San Lorenzo, El Fronto which housed a maximum security prison, Cavinzas, and Palominos where one can spot sea lions and seabirds. There are plans to expand the seaport to make it even bigger. The city’s residents are called Chalacos.
