Seaport of Houston
Houston is a seaport with the code USHOU. The port is located in the United Stated, and is the fourth largest port in the country, situated a few hours away from the Gulf of Mexico. It has both public and private facilities. It is the second busiest port in the United States in terms of foreign tonnage, and is second in terms of overall tonnage. It is the thirteenth busiest port in the world. At first, the port’s facilities were located only in Houston. However, the port has grown so much that some of its facilities are located in smaller cities. The port has been in operation since 1909. It is a type of inland port. It was officially opened in 1941. In 2005, the port transshipped 215 million tons of cargo. Most of them were petroleum-derived. It has two terminals for container handling. They are Barbours Cut and Bayport. It also has general cargo terminals: Turning Basin, Jacintoport, Woodhouse.
