Seaport of Puerto Cortes
Puerto Cortes is a seaport with the code HNPCR, located in Honduras. It has been in operation since 1966, while its free-trade area has existed since 1976. The facility is 36th in terms of size when it comes to ports transporting containers to the United States. Since it is situated not far from the Gulf of Mexico and the US East Coast, it was included in the US Container Security Initiative, which is the first such port organization in Middle America. Since 2005, there has been cooperation between United States – Honduras, namely a US Customs Office was opened in Puerto Cortés. In accordance with this agreement, all containers delivered directly to the US are checked by the US Customs Office in Honduras. It is worth emphasizing that it is one of the busiest ports in Middle America. It is also the home city of two football players: Édgar Álvarez and Julio César de León.
